If you are looking for a unique location in New York City for your photo session, look no further. The TWA Hotel at the JFK Airport is an iconic location that blends retro and futuristic elements, which makes it very versatile for any style. The colors and architecture of the TWA Hotel are one of a kind and make the creative possibilities endless. The Sunken Lounge is just stunning!

Now let me tell you about Kenzie and Corban – such an iconic couple. Their love for art and as creatives themselves – Kenzie a film editor and Corban in theater – made this session so easy. It was their 5th year anniversary as a couple and they celebrated by wearing their wedding attire for a photoshoot. The TWA Hotel felt like it was made for them: their bold yet playful style was the perfect match for the bold reds and the overall retro-yet-futuristic aesthetic of the hotel.

To book a photo session at the TWA Hotel, you’ll need to book a room for day use or overnight stay. Once you have your booking details, you will email your confirmation number along with your desired photography time to the staff (contact info here) within 2 days of your session. They will email you your official photo pass that you can use for 1.5 hours. For Kenzie and Corban’s anniversary session, we booked a room for day use and started our session there. Our room was a king suite with a historic TWA view, but there are plenty of other options. This was our view from our suite:

We got some fun photos in the room as they got ready, followed by a few shots in the hallway and in the elevator before we headed towards the main areas of the hotel.

I was very excited about this session after learning how unique Kenzie and Corban’s style was! When we had our virtual call to plan the session, I already knew that we were going to take a more artful and fun approach with intentional posing rather than my usual lifestyle approach that involves a lot of movement. I come into every session and wedding with an observant and intuitive approach, where I let your energy guide how I photograph you. I do my best to utilize our environment and create with feels inspiring in the moment. And photographing Kenzie and Corban was a dream! I was very inspired by their individual personalities, their connection, and their love for art. They took direction and posing really well while making it their own and letting their personalities show, so it was more of a collaborative process than just giving them direction.

And all these reds and yellows? This session really inspired me to embrace the rich reds and yellows of the hotel to evoke feelings of happiness and vibrancy throughout their gallery.

Now you might be wondering about their wedding attire — Kenzie thrifted her wedding dress from Le Grand Strip in Brooklyn and Corban had his suit custom-made. From their wedding attire to Kenzie’s nails, every detail was so intentional. We also got florals from Katherine, who is so extremely talented and made such a unique bouquet for Kenzie.

The rain started pouring in the middle of our session so we waited until it stopped so we could take photos outside. Our session at the TWA Hotel wouldn’t have been complete without taking photos with “Connie,” a 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane that is right outside the hotel, with a cocktail lounge inside (photos are prohibited).

If you’re thinking about getting married or booking a session at the TWA Hotel, absolutely do it! It was so fun playing around with symmetry, colors, and angles to create something special with Kenzie and Corban. Couples like them are the reason I stay passionate about creating, and my best work is created when everything feels aligned. Photos are more than just something to look at — they should make you feel something. I hope that when you look at these photos, you learn a little something about Kenzie and Corban. A few things to know when photographing a session at the TWA Hotel (weddings could very much have different rules). Here are the Terms and Conditions:

• Photo and video shoots are permitted for a total of 90 minutes in the lobby, Flight Tubes, the Sunken Lounge, the Ambassadors Club, Twister Room, and seasonal activation spaces. The Connie cocktail lounge, Paris Café, Lisbon Lounge and guest areas, including the Event Center, rooftop and elevator landings are strictly prohibited. • Photo and video shoots are limited to four people, including the photographer. • Only handheld equipment is permitted. Flash photography, props, and any other disruptive elements (such as a smoke machine) are strictly prohibited. • The reserved guestroom should be used for wardrobe, staging, and storage. Wardrobe changes are not permitted in public spaces, nor is storage of materials and equipment. • Bell carts may not be used for the transportation of equipment or as props. • TWA Hotel managers reserve the right to terminate any photo shoot we deem inappropriate or harmful to the TWA Hotel brand.
