Melissa and Aldo’s Southern Utah wedding was truly one of a kind. Melissa grew up in Salt Lake City and spent many summers at her family’s cabin in Teasdale, Utah, a quiet, beautiful town near Capitol Reef National Park. Aldo, who is part Italian and raised in Switzerland, wanted to bring a touch of European charm to their day. Together, they dreamed up something unique: an Italian garden party in the desert.
As a documentary wedding photographer based in Salt Lake City, this wedding felt like a destination for me too: a perfect mix of adventure, culture, and heartfelt storytelling in one of Utah’s most stunning places.

Melissa and Aldo’s day was full of intentional, personal details. Their tablescapes featured blue and white ceramic bowls, lemons, herbs, candles, and flowers — combining rustic desert tones with elegant European textures. It felt effortlessly Euro-western — romantic yet relaxed, timeless yet rooted in nature.
The desert winds showed up strong that day — veils flying, hair escaping pins, and laughter filling the air. My approach to wedding photography is to capture how a day feels, not just how it looks. So instead of fighting the wind, we embraced it. The result was full of motion, laughter, and authenticity — a true reflection of what it felt like to be there.

We started the day taking photos with the wedding party, who handled the wind with humor and grace. Aldo’s groomsmen surrounded him with encouragement and laughter before the ceremony — a beautiful mix of nerves and excitement.

Guests came from all over the world — many of Aldo’s friends and family traveling from Europe to celebrate. Melissa and Aldo’s dog, Lily, joined too, perfectly dressed for the occasion, alongside the family dogs who made the day even more special.

After the ceremony, we explored the nearby desert for portraits surrounded by Teasdale’s iconic rock formations. Melissa and Aldo have such a calm, grounded energy — so my focus was to highlight that in how I directed them. I wanted their portraits to feel like part of the landscape, blending love and nature in a way that felt true to them.

The guests mingled as we took bride and groom portraits. When we returned to the cabin for the reception, guests were already gathered at the tables enjoying wood-fired pizza, fresh salad, and homemade desserts. Every detail felt intentional and personal — made even more meaningful because the decor was designed by one of Melissa’s closest friends.

The rest of the evening unfolded naturally — heartfelt toasts, first dances, and so much laughter. Melissa’s mom and her friends even surprised everyone with a performance, and Melissa couldn’t resist joining in.
As the music carried into the night, we danced beneath a sky full of stars on the cabin’s deck. My shoes were sandy, my hair was tangled from the wind, and I couldn’t have felt happier. Driving back to my hotel that night, I was filled with gratitude — for the trust, the joy, and the chance to document such a meaningful day in one of my favorite parts of Utah.
If you’re dreaming of a celebration surrounded by red rock, desert light, and genuine emotion, I’d love to tell your story. I’m a documentary wedding photographer based in Salt Lake City, available for travel across Utah and beyond.
